“Holdin’ My Breath…”

Goldfish neko BubblesWhew!! I’ve slipped a couple of days on my posts, but we’re still doin’ pretty darn good for our “Frolicking Under The Sea: Mermaid Fantasy Film Festival – August 2016” movie theme month here at the ol’ Litterbox. I’ve got the whole next 3 days off from work too, so chances are good I’ll get a few more done by weekend’s end. Yay!

To hold you over, I thought I might while away the afternoon making a Diary post to keep you all up-to-date on this wee lady’s recent Magical Catgirl adventures…😉

Well the weather hereabouts finally managed to reach the blistering heat I’m used to experiencing for Summer so naturally once that happened my sweet wife got it into her head that it was time for us to resume our swimming lessons again when time and the weather permit…. another of the things that’s been percolating about in my noggin’ of late that helped me decide upon this month’s Movie Festival theme. Hehehe…Inspiration”… ya gotta take it where you can…😉

To put it short and sweet, yours truly still reeaally sucks in the “aquatic playtime” department despite our best efforts. Sigh… It’s not that I don’t have the most patient and wonderful teacher mind you… Carolyn was, after all, on the swim team back in her High School days and swims like a mermaid herself. She’s been doing her best to tutor me when we get to the beach, but this wee kitten is still more than a little intimidated by the whole idea of actually being in the water at all. To combat this I’ve been working on building my confidence and trying to overcome my fear by just getting used to being submerged for any length of time.

I now have this scuba mask for my eyes. Not the little eye goggles… oh no… the big honking  full face snorkel mask. Yes… I do look rather silly in them and always end up with what I call “scuba face” once I’ve worn them for a while, but they’ve helped immensely in letting me actually open my eyes when I’m underwater. Part of my fear has always been that I can’t see when I’m submerged as the water makes me close my eyes up tighter than a clam. Just don’t like the feeling… and being unable to see makes me panic… and then I lose concentration and start sinking… Oooooh! And then the panicking, let’s not forget the panicking… Cue the spastic thrashing and drowning!!😉

But… with my goofy looking mask on… I can actually see, even if I do look like some lost Japanese pearl diver from an old episode of “Sea Hunt” or something. Carolyn then can hold my hand and sink down to the bottom with me while I hold my breath, staying right there and keeping me calm enough with her touch and her presence to stay still and practice just being completely beneath the water. She’s very attentive… watching for any signs that I’m freaking out and generally keeping pretty good tabs on lil’ ol’ me.

Little by little she’s been coaxing me out into the deeper water, and now I’m able to be about 7 or 8 feet below for those short experiments, although she’s quick to slip an arm around me and pull me back to the shallows when I’m out of breath since I still seem completely unable to do anything but scramble along the bottom rather than actually display any kind of natural buoyancy. In short… I still don’t seem to actually be able to just plain float. Not… at… all. Well… at least I guess that rules out any possibility that I’m a witch. So apparently that rumor about Lesbians is totally busted… Hehehehe….

Needless to say, this month’s Movie Fest has had my sweetie more than a little amused. She just figures it’s another example of me being somewhat obsessive when I’m involved in a project. Yep. She’s figured out that I never do things halfway. I’m an “all or nothin'” sorta girl.

Still, it has been nice being able to share some beach time with my sweetie. Up on the sand, I’m a natural, Got my bikini… my sunscreen… my floppy hat.. my comfy flip-flops. Yep. No worries there. Give me a barbecue and a wine cooler to sip as we hang out and soak up some sun and I’m one happy lady. Yep the cool breezes sure make the beach sooooo much more preferable to our stuffy lil’ apartment. I just wish Ting ting could come with us…

Anyways, that’s how we’ve been filling some of our free time this Summer, hopefully we’ll get some time off later this month and actually get a vacation together again this year. Just a matter of synchronizing our work schedules which should be easier once the colleges get back in session and I know if I’ve got enough seasonal help at the restaurant to allow me to take a week away.

Until then, I’ve a few more mermaid movie goodies lined up for the rest of the month, with a couple of neat odd little foreign ones if the Mail and Movie Fairies smile on me. I’m trying like crazy to keep my focus and be more diligent with things so keep your fingers crossed.😉

Till then… “Meow, Meow for now!”
